After months of delay, construction has officially resumed on the long-awaited Mamboleo Junction–Miwani–Chemelil–Muhoroni–Kipsitet Highway. The government’s recent release of infrastructure funds has breathed new life into this 122-kilometre, Ksh15.7 billion project, overseen by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA). The highway is being constructed in three major lots:
- Lot 1: Mamboleo Junction to Miwani (33.9 km) – China Railway No. 10 Engineering Group (Ksh5.2B)
- Lot 2: Miwani to Chemelil (43.4 km) – Sinohydro JV with Grageb Agencies (Ksh4.96B)
- Lot 3: Chemelil to Kipsitet (44.7 km) – H. Young EA Ltd (Ksh5.7B)
This route is key to unlocking the region’s agricultural and trade potential—especially in the sugar belt. Once complete, it will enhance mobility and stimulate economic integration across Kisumu, Nandi, and Kericho counties. Work is already underway with heavy equipment on-site, including compactors, mixers, and finishers. The Vogele Road Paver, for example, plays a key role in ensuring smooth, durable asphalt layers that meet international road standards. With the right machines, projects move faster, last longer, and cost less in the long run. Officials also note that other stalled roads nationwide are set to resume, signalling renewed commitment to infrastructure development.
